What Happened After 1177 B.C.?

Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,

How do societies respond to collapse or threat of collapse? Why do some survive and others don’t? What is the relationship between resilience and collapse?

This month’s Podcast with Professors is with Dr. Eric H. Cline, Professor of Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Anthropology and the current Director of the GWU Capitol Archaeological Institute at George Washington University. He is a National Geographic Explorer, a Fulbright scholar, an NEH Public Scholar, a Getty Scholar, and an award-winning teacher.

He is the author of several books, including the best-seller, 1177 B.C and his recent sequel, After 1177 B.C.: The Survival of Civilizations, of which we speak about today.

We discuss the ‘dark ages’ and whether they were really dark at all, what the major societies at the time were like, and how they were -or were not- similar as well as what those differences meant when threatened with collapse.

As always, we bring it back to our modern times and assess what lessons we can glean from these very ancient cautionary tales.

Members, you can enjoy the full podcast above, as well as the ability to download the audio below.
